Summer summer summer-time! And the livin’s easy. Right?
I think every summer of my life has an anthem. A song that reminds me of a boyfriend or a lazy beach parties or party nights. I love summer anthems, and now they’re a part of my running playlists!
From the Pavement Runner, here are the rules:
- Something Old: These will be songs that are at least 5 years old. I know that isn’t too long to be considered old, but music turnover happens quickly.
- Something Current: These will be songs that have been released within the past year. I know, but you have to give me some leeway here.
- Something to Consider: These will be songs that are not typically heard on the radio and may be by artists you’ve never heard of or considered running to. This is the wild card category, can be old or current.
Song: Cruel Summer
Side Note: This song is my go-to 89° at 5am song. Which is like every single morning run from July through September in Florida.
Quotable: It’s too close for comfort; This heat has got right out of hand.
Artist: Jason Mraz
Song: Summer Breeze
Side Note: Originally by Seals & Croft in the 70′s, I love Jason’s rendition almost as much.
Quotable: A little light, shining through the window, let’s me know that everything’s alright.
Something to Consider
Artist: Bryan Adams
Song: Summer of ’69
Side Note: The “69″ reference is not about the year, it’s about nostalgia and making love in the summer time.
Quotable: Oh when I look back now, that summer seemed to last forever. And if I had the choice, yeah, I’d always want to be there. Those were the best days of my life.
I’ve already got 20 more summertime songs loaded up for my run tomorrow. Trying hard to embrace the heat and very early mornings that come with running in Florida. Summer anthems and awesome are the best way to pump myself up to get out there on the road.
