I’m back for round two of the Pavement Runner’s Playlist Thursday and I’m going to suggest a weekly theme this time to focus my selections. Each week I’ll focus on the hip hop, punk rock, 80′s or new music on my lists. You know, a theme.
This week, I’m giving you a peek into the more embarrassing songs on my list. I pride myself in my generally cool music library. I’m an indie-rock, obscure and underground fanatic, for the most part. I’ve been to Bonnaroo a few times, and not to see the headliners. I listen to Sirius XMU. I’m a member of IndieTorrents. I’m something of a snob.
So embarrassing, to me, is anything mainstream. Anything Justin Timberlake or Black Eyed Peas. You can see where this is headed.
Here’s the deal:
- Something Old: These will be songs that are at least 5 years old. I know that isn’t too long to be considered old, but music turnover happens quickly.
- Something Current: These will be songs that have been released within the past year. I know, but you have to give me some leeway here.
- Something to Consider: These will be songs that are not typically heard on the radio and may be by artists you’ve never heard of or considered running to. This is the wild card category, can be old or current.
Here we go.
Something Old
Artist: Eminem
Title: Just Lose It
Side Note: I seriously dance and bop and sing along to this song. I know every word, and yes, that’s embarrassing.
Quotable: “Now I’m gonna make you dance; It’s your chance; Yeah boy shake that ass. Oops I mean girl. Girl girl girl. Girl you know you’re my world.”
Something Current
Artist: Black Eyed Peas
Title: Pump It
Side Note: I have a very, very strong hatred of the BEPs in general, so this song is especially embarrassing. There’s no accounting for taste while I’m running I guess.
Quotable: Are there any BEP lyrics worth repeating?
Something to Consider
Artist: Dancehall Crashers
Title: Lost Again
Side Note: This is one of my favorite all-girl pop-punk (I use that term loosely) bands from the 90′s, and reminds me of dorm rooms and dirty basements. I sing along. Loudly.
Quotable: “Guess your head is thicker than I thought.”
Jump on board and post your embarrassing playlist selections and head over to read Pavement Runner’s Playlist Thursday post too!
We are so on the same page. I was going to do a theme today (hip hop), but decided it might be too soon to start categorizing them. Glad I’m not alone on FANTASTIC ideas. I also want to do an artist version. Playlist Thursday: Lady Gaga, or something like that. But it would be dependent on material. I’m glad you are having fun with it.

I am the exact same way!!! I take pride in my taste in {mainly alt rock} music, and even though it’s not what I’d call “good”, there are definitely some katy perry, eminem etc jams on my ipod…great for working out! They’re such a “guilty pleasure” playlist!
My playlist is all over the place depending on my mood. I always enjoy 90s pop when I’m feeling silly. It definitely leads to some pretty epic in-car sing-alongs.

I have some really bad songs on my playlist. Ummm, S-Club 7? Yeah. I told you BAD! For some reason I can’t get rid of it and it puts a cheesy smile on my face so why not?
