I so love this idea because I’m always looking for new tunes for my running playlist, so I’m joining the fun that the Pavement Runner started.
Here’s the deal:
Welcome to PLAYLIST THURSDAY, where every Thursday I will post three songs for you to consider adding to your running playlist. There will be three categories:
- Something Old: These will be songs that are at least 5 years old. I know that isn’t too long to be considered old, but music turnover happens quickly.
- Something Current: These will be songs that have been released within the past year. I know, but you have to give me some leeway here.
- Something to Consider: These will be songs that are not typically heard on the radio and may be by artists you’ve never heard of or considered running to. This is the wild card category.
So you can see why I am excited. Music is a big part of every run for me. I either look forward to it because my playlist is awesome or dread it because I’m bored with the monotony and rhythm. I like to add something new every few weeks; something more than hitting “shuffle.”
1. Something Old:
Artist: Tag Team
Title: Whoomp! (There It Is)
Side Note: Seriously. I won’t believe you if you try to tell me you’re not singing along and skipping a bit when you hear this song around mile two.
Quotable: “Whoomp chak a laka chak a laka chak a laka chak a.”
2. Something New:
Artist: tUnE-yArDs (seriously, it’s stylized like that)
Title: Gangsta
Side Note: The album as well as singles “Bizness” and “Gangsta” received mention on many top 2011 album and song lists, including Time Magazine, Rolling Stone, Spin Magazine, and the New York Times.
Quotable: “What’s a boy to do if he’ll never be a gangsta? Anger in his heart, but he’ll never be a gangsta.”
3. Something To Consider:
Artist: Jimmy Eat World
Title: The Middle
Side Note: This song totally reminds me of middle school, although I didn’t know about it until college. Still, it gives me hope for preteens.
Quotable: “It just takes some time, little girl you’re in the middle of the ride.”
Ok now you. Post your favorite old, new and to-be-considered songs on your blog and be sure to leave a comment over on the Pavement Runner’s blog too! Awesome idea – can’t wait to see everyone’s tunes!
Love it! I have Jimmy Eat World on my playlist, too. I love “A Praise Chorus” and “The Authority Song” as well and they will definitely make an appearance on future PT.
That Gangsta song is fun! I love how it starts off.
Thanks for the shout out and for joining in on the fun!
